Sarah Carter L.Ac.
Founder of Human Ecology · Creator of The Ecology Method · Integrative Wellness Practitioner & Educator
Sarah Carter is the founder of Human Ecology and creator of The Ecology Method, a holistic framework for understanding the complex relationship between human wellbeing, behavior, relationships, environment, and the larger systems in which we live.
A licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, certified yoga teacher, and lifelong student of the healing arts, Sarah has spent more than a decade working at the intersection of Chinese medicine, integrative health, wellness, movement, mindfulness, nutrition, and personal transformation. Her work draws from acupuncture, herbal medicine, qigong, yoga, breathwork, meditation, nutrition, intuitive practices, feng shui, and other traditional and contemporary approaches to wellbeing.
Sarah approaches wellness as an investigator of the whole person. Rather than viewing symptoms, habits, emotions, relationships, or environments as isolated, she looks for the patterns and connections between them. Her work is grounded in the idea that inner ecology and outer ecology are inseparable: the way we relate to ourselves influences the way we relate to other people, our homes, our work, our communities, and the natural world.
This understanding became the foundation for The Ecology Method—a way of thinking about human wellbeing that considers the individual as part of a living, interconnected system. The method brings together body, mind, emotions, energy, relationships, environment, and meaning to help people understand what is actually shaping their lives and make changes that are sustainable rather than simply treating symptoms.
Through the Human Ecology Project, Sarah is developing this philosophy into a broader body of education, writing, tools, and experiences designed to help people create healthier relationships with themselves and the communities they inhabit. Her work is particularly relevant to women navigating major life transitions, starting a family, struggling with burnout, moving through midlife, experiencing menopause, and seeking to live with greater intention and alignment.
Sarah also works with healthcare practitioners and other purpose-driven professionals, helping them bring greater clarity, coherence, sustainability, and success to the businesses, healthcare practices, and community spaces they are building.
At the heart of Sarah's work is a simple premise:
A healthy human is not an isolated individual. A human is part of an ecology.
What would change if we learned to understand ourselves as part of a living system and designed our lives accordingly?
